Mason Bee Steel Sieve
The Mason Bee Steel Sieve is an essential tool for cleaning and separating mason bee cocoons. Designed for efficiency, this strainer holds cocoons securely during the rinsing and cleaning process, ensuring they are properly prepared for storage and safe-keeping.
How to Use
- Soak the cocoons in a pail of water to remove the majority of mud, which may take an hour or two.
- Once soaked, place the cocoons into the sieve and run them under cold running water while continuously rolling them for thorough cleaning.
- For a final rinse, immerse the cocoons in a large bowl of cold water with a cap of bleach for a couple of minutes to eliminate any fungal spores.
- Air dry the cocoons for several hours on paper towels and store them in the refrigerator for winter.
- In Spring, set the sieve near nesting tunnels to encourage the bees to emerge as outside temperatures rise.
