Enzymes Komplete™ is a true multi-purpose cleaner that allows for a variety of effective applications in a living garden including beehives.
Effectively remove all dead matter from your bee hive equipment. This product helps with the cleanliness of your hive and equipment, health and performance of your colony with pest control and disease prevention.
How to use:
Undiluted Enzymes Komplete™ Natural Enzymatic Cleaner is recommended for rapid & effective cleaning, soaking & cleansing procedures. However, diluting to 1:5 should be sufficient for successfully cleaning bee equipment and materials.
Poor sanitation can contribute to disease spread, reduced colony productivity, contaminated honey, and colony losses.
Why Cleanliness Matters
1. Disease Prevention
Many bee diseases can spread through contaminated equipment, including:
-
American foulbrood (one of the most serious brood diseases)
-
European foulbrood
-
Nosemosis
Used hive bodies, frames, tools, and extraction equipment can harbor pathogens. Some, such as the spores that cause American foulbrood, can remain viable for decades.
2. Colony Health and Performance
Clean equipment helps:
-
Reduce stress on colonies
-
Lower disease pressure
-
Improve brood survival
-
Support stronger population growth
Healthy colonies generally produce more honey and are better able to survive winter.
3. Honey Quality and Food Safety
Honey extraction and processing equipment should be kept clean to:
-
Prevent contamination
-
Maintain honey quality and flavor
-
Meet food safety expectations
-
Avoid mold, fermentation, or foreign material entering the product
For commercial operations, cleanliness is often part of regulatory compliance and customer confidence.
4. Pest Management
Dirty storage areas and neglected equipment can attract:
-
Wax moth
-
Small hive beetle (where present)
-
Rodents and other pests
Proper cleaning and storage reduce losses and equipment damage.
Practical Cleanliness Standards
Successful beekeepers commonly:
-
Scrape excess wax and propolis from equipment.
-
Clean hive tools regularly.
-
Sanitize extraction and bottling equipment before use.
-
Inspect used equipment carefully before introducing it into healthy colonies.
-
Store comb and equipment in dry, pest-resistant conditions.
-
Isolate or destroy equipment associated with serious disease outbreaks when required.
